Sunscreen, Hats and Shade: Protection for Outdoor Play

By Sponsored & Paid Advertising Content: Michelle Kopkash July 2, 2019

I’m so glad that the sun has finally come out to play more because there is so much simple fun to be had outdoors in Northern California. From bike riding, playing at one of the dozens of parks and swimming to taking a nature walk in Auburn or doing a mini-day trip at Lake Tahoe, we love being outside. But, I always keep one thing in mind as we head out the door—sun protection. I was warned constantly as a child by my grandma about the importance of wearing sunscreen and the dangers of burnt skin, and I wish I’d heeded her advice more because my family is prone to skin cancer. As an adult, I appreciate my skin so much more and I apply it every day to my face, neck, and chest and I absolutely never forget to slather it on my kids. One of my children is a redhead who burns very quickly.

These days, I’ve got a stash of supplies in my bag to ensure my kids are protected against the sun’s rays at all times: kid-friendly sunscreen, easily foldable sun hats and sunglasses. Yes, I carry a big bag, but it’s worth it to me. I’ve found that Banana Boat® Sunscreen brand works well for my family because it offers great UVA/UVB protection and it seems to stay on in so many conditions*– the blazing sun, our gym pool water, the lakes and rivers, playtime in the sand and it even protects in the 100+ degree heat that we experience in Placer County. Just as important, it passed the tear-free test and works on my daughter’s sensitive skin.

Make sure as you prep for the summer that you’ve stocked up on sunscreen, hats, and shade for your family. Banana Boat® Sun Care products can be purchased at Rite Aid, as well as sunhats and other summer products to help you beat the heat and have fun by the pool or water.

* 7 conditions do not apply to tanning or oil products, SPF 100 lotions, lip balms, Kids FREE, and Zinc  Faces
