Serious Family Fun at Main Event

Our New Mexico Adventure Continues

By Macaroni Kid Roseville-Rocklin-Lincoln April 28, 2018

When we decided to take a trip to New Mexico I researched things to do there. I had to find things that would entertain eight people, ranging in age from 6 to 60. One place that popped up was Main Event. I’d never heard of them before, but I found out it was an indoor entertainment center with bowling and other games.

For our third day in New Mexico, we decided to give Main Event a try. It sounded like another place everyone in our group of 8 could find something to do. We arrived fairly early, and it wasn’t too busy. We were lucky, they were having a Spring special on wristbands, which included unlimited activities (except arcade games) for one low price.

With 4 adults and 4 kids, we were able to split up and try out a variety of things. The first thing some of us decided to do was give the Gravity Ropes a try. They have a minimum height restriction of 48”, so one of the kids was unable to do it. He was a bit disappointed so I took him around to play the arcade games, and we could watch the others up above us on the ropes.

After being harnessed in, the others started walking along the ropes above us. Each section was just a little different. I noticed the kids seemed to have no fear, and went through it rather effortlessly. The adults, on the other hand, tended to hesitate a bit more, even though they were harnessed in. Oh to be a kid, and have no fear!

Next up were the pool tables. We were lucky that it wasn’t too busy yet, and we were able to secure a couple tables. The younger kids hadn’t played before, and mostly just practiced hitting and bouncing the balls around, which kept them occupied as everyone took turns playing. When the kids got bored, the other adults with us took them to play arcade games while we played for awhile longer.

When we finished our games we went looking for everyone and found them bouncing all over the floor playing games that were shining down from a projector. There were balloons to jump on and pop, soccer games to play, even “coloring pages” that got colored in as you bounced and slid on sections. In the end, when asked, the younger kids said this was their favorite thing to do there!

We almost had to drag the kids away from the games, but next up was bowling. Once they got their shoes on and started bowling, they quickly forgot about all the fun they were just having bouncing around playing the other games. We ordered some food and drinks and the kids played against each other while we relaxed a bit. By the time they were done, the place was really starting to get busy, and it was getting close to dinnertime. We decided it was time to call it a day (we’d been there over 4 hours by then).

As we made our way out, we spied a pool table clear, so we jumped on it and played another game. We were hoping the shuffleboard tables would free up, but people were still playing, and we didn’t get a chance. As we were finally leaving, we realized we never got around to playing laser tag! By then the kids were pretty tired though, so we decided it was still time to call it a day. By the time we had dinner, the kids were pretty worn out and slept really good after a day of active playing.

I wish there was a Main Event around here. It’s a place you can take the kids, or just go with adults. Either way, there is plenty to entertain. They have them in several states, so maybe they will make their way to California sometime. each location has different activities. Some of the other ones have rock climbing, bocce ball, mini golf, and a multi-player virtual reality game.

If you go to New Mexico and are in the Albuquerque area looking for some good family fun, Main Event is sure to please!
