Our Fair Favorites

By Macaroni Kid Roseville-Rocklin-Lincoln July 19, 2018

Every year we head to the fair for fun, and this year is no exception. I've already been twice, and I will be going at least one more time. We have the Family Guide to the Fair on our site, but I thought I would share some of our personal favorites.

When we go without kids, we love to spend the day roaming through the buildings checking out all the vendors (we always seem to buy something we never knew we needed until we found it at the fair). We also love music, so we always spend time going to one of the free concerts. Check out the concerts they are having this year!

Of course, no matter if we have the kids or not, food is a main attraction at the fair. It's a time to throw caution to the wind, and try all the yummy food you don't normally see around town. While there are some leaner, healthier choices, to me the fair is the time to try out some of those yummy foods I don't normally eat. This years favorites (so far) have been the fried, bacon wrapped asparagus and brussel sprouts (hey, there are veggies in those!), the strawberry, banana and Nutella crepes (got my fruit in, too), and the fried canolli. The fries smothered with cheese and bacon were pretty yummy, too. I can't wait till our next visit to try out more food!

Our favorite ride, by far, is the log ride. When we were there Monday, we were pleasantly surprised that the lines weren't too long, so we were able to go on it multiple times in a row. It was a scorching day, so the water felt wonderful. This is a ride we can enjoy with or without the kids. I have to admit, as I get older, it has gotten harder for me to do the rides because I get much dizzier than I used to, but I do them anyway, when the kids are with us, because they are too young to go on many of them by themselves. Luckily they aren't into anything too wild and crazy (yet), so I do okay. During Media Day last week I actually tried a ride I normally wouldn't do anymore, called the Inversion. It's the kind of ride I would have loved a few years back because it flips you over. That was then, and this is now, though. Let's just say I'm thankful I had an empty stomach that morning.

We went on Monday because we went to see Kidz Bop Live! It was so much fun! Yes it was extremely hot out that day, and the first part of the concert we felt a little wilted, but when the sun started to go down you could feel the temperature drop, and everyone was energized, and we all started dancing and signing to the music. This was the kids first concert. It was fun because they recognized the songs, and were able to sing along. One of my friends husbands said it was "Woodstock for kids"!

After the rides, and before the concert, we had a little time, so we took the kids up to check out the rabbits and chickens. Then I made sure to head them over to try out the Silent Disco. I was able to check it out at Media Day, and I couldn't wait to have them try it out. The cool thing about it is you don't have to listen to what the others with you are listening to, and you all can still have fun dancing to your own beat. During the day, the music is all kid friendly, but at night they kick it up a bit for adults.

Next time we go, we will be stopping by to see our favorite, Capt'n Jack Spareribs. We have watched his show many times, and the kids never get tired of it. In fact many times we watch him 2 times during the same day! We always love the shows with the horses, too, and during Media Day, we got to see a little. We will definitely be watching the full show next visit. The kids love the dog show, Splash Dogs, and they will be there from the 19th-22. I'm also looking forward to checking out the Tree Circus, too.

Before you head to the fair, be sure to check out our Family Guide to the California State Fair for the inside scoop to help make your trip there easier! Have a great time!
