Virtual Reality Comes to Roseville

Heroes Virtual Reality Adventures

By Bryan Nay, Heroes Virtual Reality Adventures August 15, 2018

Editors note: We are excited to share this information with you. It looks like a really fun adventure, and we love their Vision statement:

We see a place where people come together to embark on fantastic experiences
beyond the everyday to create
shared moments that live on in lasting friendships.

The dream of virtual reality has captivated people for years. The idea of being able to visit far away or even fantastical places is compelling. Up until recently, however, the technology has been non-existent or beyond the reach of everyday men and women. Now, however, with the advent of the HTC Vive and progress in high-end graphics processing, it’s coming within reach. The virtual reality experience created by the Vive is incredibly compelling and immersive. The information presented to your eyes, your ears, and your hands is delivered in such a coordinated way as to create the convincing case for the mind that you really are in another experience. While it may sound cliche, it truly is something that has to be experienced to be believed. Even the most skeptical or “non-gamers” have come out of their first experience in awe - surprised and delighted by something beyond their expectations. Without fail, they think of someone else that they have to tell about it, and encourage them to try it. It’s an idea that spreads quickly.

Unfortunately, while it is far more accessible than even two years ago, this tech is still largely unknown as something accessible and is primarily relegated to high-end gamers because of the required computing hardware and initial learning curve. Enter the virtual reality experience center. Through a communal gaming environment, the doors to fantastic new worlds can be open to all, long before the technology becomes practical for typical home use. With experienced guides helping new users learn to navigate, the technology becomes accessible to all.

What Makes HEROES VR Adventures Different

The purpose of HEROES is to bring people together. While it is easy for virtual reality to be a highly individual experience, at times even isolating, my mission is to bring people closer, not farther apart. We want to create a place where guests want to come with friends, spend time, and hang out. Rather than putting people into a private bubble, we want to help people engage with one another. Games will be focused around multiplayer options, including party games that allow friends who aren’t in VR themselves to still be part of the experience and fun. Everything we do is designed to support this - our open floor plan, comfortable seating for friends, game selection with an emphasis on multiplayer, and regular social nights that bring a communal feel even to single player experiences.

The most common complaint with VR centers appears to be poor customer service. At HEROES we focus on providing an exemplary team of VR Guides to help make your exposure to a new experience a great one.

What to Expect

HEROES Virtual Reality Adventures is a 3000 SQF space currently with 10 room-scale VR “bays” - each including an HTC Vive VR headset, operating PC tower, big screen tv for viewing by friends, and seating for additional players and spectators. Each bay is around 10’x10’.  We run primarily Alienware gaming computers, with high end Nvidia 1080 graphics cards. At HEROES, we use exclusive the HTC Vive, the best VR hardware available. We are also the only center to offer the Vive Pro as an upgraded option, boasting significant improvements to the visual, audio, and physical tracking of the experience. Customers rent a bay by the hour (or shorter increment). Our pricing starts at $1/min, with discounts offered for longer blocks of time. We recommend a minimum of 30 minutes per person for first time visitors, and it’s a far better experience when shared with a friend.

We accept players 8 years and older with parent permission. All players have to sign a waiver on their first visit. While most people tend to think of this as a primarily kid-focused event (and yes, kids absolutely love it), our biggest audience has actually been with adults! We’ve heard time and again “I’m not a gamer, but wow that was incredible - I’m definitely coming back again!” Because we have a team of highly trained VR guides who are here to help, you don’t have to be a “gamer” or “tech person” to be able to enjoy VR. We’ll take care of the technology, you get to just enjoy the experience!
