Haunted Halloween Haystacks and other Spooky Treats

Last Minute Ideas

By Macaroni Kid Roseville-Rocklin-Lincoln and Citrus Heights October 28, 2018

Are you looking for something fast and easy you can make for your kids school Halloween party? Are you having a party at your house? Either way, these treats are sure to be a hit. And here is an added plus: If you are having a party at your house, and you are trying to find something to keep the kids busy, or you just find yourself short on time, the kids can actually make their own treats! Yep you read that right. These are super simple, and don't require a lot of instruction. Just be sure to have a table cloth on the table, lay out the supplies, and let the kids be creative.

Haunted Halloween Haystacks
The kids will have fun mixing chow mein noodles in colorful melted candy (the melting candy discs). They can scoop them out into little piles, then ad some candy eyes.
That's it! I love these.
They're so cute, and tasty too.

Halloween Pretzel Rods
The kids can dip pretzel rods in the colorful melted candy, then decorate them using sprinkles, candy corn, or anything else you find that is fun. When I first started doing these years ago I would be sure to keep them standing till they hardened, but I've found laying them flat on wax paper works fine.

Rice Krispie Monsters
I bought a box of the pre-made mini Rice Krispie treats for these. You can put a candy stick in each one if you want. From there they can be dipped in the colorful candy melts, and decorated. You (or they) can decorate them to look like specific creatures, or make them into abstract monsters. I used a tube of the gel frosting for the faces, but I if I need to take them someplace, I will melt chocolate, spoon it into a ziploc bag, cut a tiny tip of a corner, and squeeze chocolate on for the faces. That way the face features will "set". The tube gel stays soft, and smears pretty easy if you need to take them anywhere.

What I love about all of these is that kids of all ages can make them (if that's what you want), or you can make them up super quick yourself. I was able to get all the supplies at our local Walmart, so I didn't have to go to the grocery store and to a craft store (for the candy melts).
