DIY Colorful Storage Containers

By Sarah Hauge, Publisher of Macaroni Kid Englewood-Greenwood Village-Centennial, CO March 22, 2019

In an effort to become more organized, I picked up some clear bins from our local department store. I got home and realized that my label maker had run out of tape. Ugh! I found myself in a pinch. I had little motivation to run back out to the store or wait patiently for an online delivery to finally make its way to me. So, with limited options, I dug through my crafting supplies and found some unused bottles of puff paint. Then I let my imagination run wild.

Supplies Needed:

  • Storage Bin
  • Puff Paints
  • Paper with Image/Text of your choice
  • Tape

Instructions:

  1. Print or draw the outline of an image of your choice. I did a quick internet search for "mandala" to find the image featured in this tutorial.
  2. Tape the image onto the inside of the container so you can see it from the outside.
  3. Use puff paint to trace the design on the outside of the container.
  4. Let the paint dry completely between colors to prevent unintentional mixing.

If you're not completely satisfied with your work, or you are ready to switch up the design, the puff paint will peel right off, giving you a chance to try again and again.
