Rice Krispie Egg Pops

By Macaroni Kid Roseville-Rocklin-Lincoln and Citrus Heights April 17, 2019

We love Rice Krispie Treats. They are delicious and so easy to make. They are also versatile because you can shape them, cut them, color them, and add things into them. These cute rice krispie eggs are sure to be a hit with the kids. They would make an easy treat for a school party too.

What you need:

  • Rice Krispie Cereal
  • Marshmallows
  • Butter
  • Candy Melts (any color(s) you want)
  • Coconut Oil or Shortening
  • Sprinkles
  • Candy Sticks
  • Styrofoam or something else to stand them up in while the candy hardens

Use the standard Rice Krispie Treat Recipe (recipe below) to make the treats. Instead of putting it in a pan, you will scoop some out and form into an egg shape.

We did these by hand, but you can use a plastic egg to shape them by coating the inside with cooking oil (or use a cooking spray) and packing the rice krispie mixture inside, then closing it shut and allowing the two sides to stick together to form the egg shape. You will get a more uniform shaped egg this way, but sometimes opening the egg up afterward is a little tricky. My eggs were already filled with treats for our egg hunt, so I didn't have that option this time.

You can push the stick inside the egg right then (or after getting the egg out of the plastic egg mold.

Once the eggs have set (the marshmallow will set a bit so it's not so soft) and the egg will keep its shape, it's time to melt the candy melts. Place the melts in a bowl and microwave for 30 seconds at a time then stirring, repeating until melted. Add the coconut oil or shortening and stir well. It improves the consistency for dipping.

Dip the egg in the candy melts, using a spoon as needed to coat it. Let any excess drip off. Shake the sprinkles all over it and stick it into the styrofoam (or other holder you have) to let the candy harden.

These make cute treats that can be handed out when they are placed in individual plastic or cellophane bags and tied with a ribbon.

Basic Rice Krispie Treat Recipe

  • 3 Cups Rice Krispie Cereal
  • 3 Cups Mini Marshmallows
  • 3 Tablespoons of Butter

Place the marshmallows and butter in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave for a minute then stir. Microwave additional 30 seconds and stir again, repeating as needed to melt marshmallows. Stir well. You can also melt the marshmallows and butter in a pan on the stove if you prefer (be sure to remove from heat before adding the cereal).

Stir the cereal into the melted marshmallow mixture.

Happy Easter!
