Laundry Love: Go Green For St. Patrick's Day!

Make Clay out of LINT!

March 11, 2020

In my opinion, this is the ULTIMATE in recycling and perfect for St. Patrick's Day!

Have you ever wondered what to do with all that left-over dryer lint? OK, so we haven't either BUT I ran across this somewhere in cyberspace months ago and finally had the time to try it. Dryer Lint Dough... why not!! I found several "recipes" on-line but didn't have all the ingredients for any of them so I kinda put them all together and made my own with what I had on hand.

Supplies List:

3 cups of dryer lint

2 cups of water

1 cup of flour

**I also read after I already made my dough that you can add food coloring to this as well! We decided to paint ours but it would be fun to add food coloring too depending on what activities your kids are going to use their dough to make.

Step 1:  Measure 3 cups of lint.

**This is what 3 cups of lint looks like in case you didn't know!

Step 2:  Put in a pan and add 2 cups of water and get all of the lint wet.
 The kids loved this part!

**This is what it will look like once it's saturated!

Step 3:  Stir in 1 cup of flour and cook over medium heat until it starts to look and feel like clay.

Step 4:  The directions said to cool on newspapers but I didn't have any newspapers so cardboard did the trick.

Step 5:  Play with as you would any type of clay or store in an airtight container.  Once it's dry (which they say takes 5 days) you can paint it or just let the natural textures and colors of the lint show through!
