Welcome the Birds to Your Backyard!

Create a simple bird feeder with at-home supplies

By Melissa Hucal August 14, 2019

In anticipation of Spring, we are ready to see more birds in our backyard. So, to let them know they are welcome, we crafted bird feeders for our tree.

By recycling a simple household item - toilet paper rolls - we were able to create several "fly up" food stations for our feathered friends.

Here's what you need:

  • Empty toilet paper rolls
  • Peanut butter
  • Bird Seed
  • Butter/plastic knife, bowl or plate

And here's what you do:

  1. Using a butter or plastic knife, spread peanut butter on the toilet paper roll. It's a sticky job, so there may be some finger licking. Not that we would know.
  2. Roll the peanut butter coated roll into the bird seed. You may need to push some of the seeds in so a good amount stick.
  3. Take the rolls outside and place them over a tree branch. Then, sit back and wait for the birds to arrive!

What a great way to welcome Spring!
