Finger Paint That's Okay to Eat!

By Aida Alfonzo July 29, 2020

If there’s one thing we know to be true about our babies and toddlers, it’s that nearly EVERYTHING finds its way into their mouths! But that shouldn’t discourage us from participating in great sensory activities like finger painting. The trick is finding a medium that is safe for little fingers AND (quite possibly) little mouths.

Here’s a super simple recipe for a homemade “paint.”

What you need:

  • Plain Yogurt (Greek yogurt has a good, thick consistency for this activity.)
  • Food Coloring
  • Canvas (Your child’s high chair tray or a piece of wax paper both make great canvases.)

How To:

Step 1 - MIX! And that’s it!

Adjust the amount of food coloring to achieve your desired colors. Then let your kids play! Show them how to mix colors and create new designs.

Store any leftovers in the refrigerator and remember to discard it according to the date that coincides to what is on the yogurt container.

Also, it’s important to note that this recipe will not create any artwork that can be saved. It’s designed to be a safe, sensory experience for an hour or so before you clean up.

Have Fun!
