Fun with Gummies!

Two great activities to do with the kids: Science and a Treat

By Beth Carlson May 20, 2020

Kids love gummy candy, so why not incorporate some bears and worms into two fun projects – one to eat and one to explore science!

Gummy Bear PopsiclesYour kids will love this cool, sweet treat.

 Ingredients:

  • Gummy bears
  • 7-Up or other clear liquid
  • Popsicle molds (You can find these at the Dollar Store)

Steps:

Just one! Simply add gummy bears & 7-Up to the popsicle molds. Freeze until solid and enjoy!

Dancing WormsTry this wiggly science experiment while you’re enjoying your treat (recipe above)!

Materials:

  • 3-4 gummy worms
  • 2 containers (at least one should be clear)
  • 2-3 T baking soda
  • 2-3 T water
  • 1 cup white vinegar
  • scissors
  • strainer

Steps:

  1. Cut the gummy worms lengthwise (in fourths is best). This makes them dance better.
  2. Mix water and baking soda in one container (this one doesn’t need to be clear).
  3. Let the gummy worms soak in the mixture for at least 20 minutes.
  4. Strain the gummy worms and set aside.
  5. Pour the vinegar into the clear container.
  6. Add the worms one at a time & begin the worm dance!

Keep your dancing shoes on because this experiment can be repeated over and over.
