Easy Thanksgiving Craft: “Thumbs”-giving Turkey

By Tina Cloer November 18, 2020

This is an easy craft you can do with your kids in preparation for Thanksgiving.

Materials Needed:

  • Brown construction paper
  • Scissors
  • One medium google eye
  • Washable glue
  • Foam plate or plastic lid
  • Washable red and yellow paint
  • Red, orange, yellow, blue and purple feathers (or other color combination)
  • Clear tape
  • Black pen or thin Sharpie

Instructions:

  1. Cut a turkey shape (about 5 inches in height) out of the brown construction paper. A cookie cutter makes a great template or check online.
  2. Glue the google eye onto the turkey.
  3. Squirt a small amount of the red and yellow paints onto the foam plate or plastic lid.
  4. Press your child's thumb into the paint and press thumb onto the turkey for "feathers," alternating between the two colors of paint.
  5. Put the colored feathers together at the hard tips and fan them out. Tape them to the back of the turkey behind the thumb "feathers."
  6. Using the pen, write saying of your choice, such as "Happy Thumbs-giving."
