ROCKLIN, Calif. — December 19, 2024 — Rocklin Unified School District (RUSD) is proud to introduce the "Spark the Arts" program at Antelope Creek Elementary. This initiative represents a significant push to integrate the arts throughout the curriculum, supported by Proposition 28 funding which is also enhancing music and arts education district-wide.

Transformative Arts Education

Bill MacDonald, RUSD’s Associate Superintendent of Educational Services, expressed enthusiasm about the initiative: "We are thrilled to see the transformative impact of arts education on our students with the launch of 'Spark the Arts' at Antelope Creek Elementary. Thanks to Proposition 28, we continue to expand opportunities that inspire creativity and innovation."

Program Highlights:

  • Elementary Music Expansion: The program now serves 2,364 students in grades 4-6, offering band, strings, and choir. Special education classrooms have been included to ensure equitable access.
  • New Creative Programs: "Spark the Arts" aims to foster creativity and collaboration in classrooms by integrating Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) standards into everyday lessons.
  • School-wide Initiatives: These include a monthly newsletter, a student logo contest, and plans for the Falcon Art Museum to showcase student artwork.

Additional School Engagements

  • Sierra Elementary: Continues arts integration through the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Program, blending arts with inquiry-based learning for cultural, historical, and social exploration.
  • Rhythm and Movement for K-2: Introduces younger students to foundational music skills through engaging activities like bucket drumming and rhythm sticks.

Looking Forward

Enrollment for the 2025-26 school year will begin on January 21, 2025, which includes programs like "Spark the Arts" and the IB curriculum at Sierra Elementary. Additionally, a district-wide Music Docent program is set to pilot in the fall of 2025 to further enhance arts education across all elementary schools.
